Announcing the Students of the Year at the TReND Neuroscience Summer School!

We’d like to congratulate the winners of the TReND-ADInstruments Student of the Year and Excellence awards from this year’s IBRO School on Insect Neuroscience andDrosophilaNeurogenetics, held at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Now in its fourth year, the summer school is an intensive three-week course focused on advanced practical research skills for graduates and postgraduates from African universities. We are really proud to be involved in this program with TReND and wish all the students luck with their careers in science!

This year's top students are:

Run by non-profit organizationTReND(Teaching and Research in Neuroscience for Development in Africa) with help fromIBRO(the International Brain Research Organization) using equipment donated by ADInstruments, the course is seen as a catalyst for researchers and educators from many scientific fields, from all over Africa.

While in name the workshop is focused on insect neuroscience,TReNDis quick to establish that the value is really much broader.

“We use neuroscience as a tool to teach about science in general. We provide our students with skills that are useful in any scientific context, such as statistics, scientific writing, bio-informatics, open source, creative problem solving, management of resources, and, perhaps most importantly, a creative approach to affordable lab solutions.”

Congratulations again to all those involved in this inspiring initiative! You can read more about the TReND summer schools and other initiatives they organizehere.
